Amber started the show with a hangover and a strike in the Sober House. Not a good beginning but almost nothing compared to what happened next…

Andy Dick the newbie, spoke with Dr. Drew about his drug history. A sober Andy is a sad Andy.

But most of the show dealt with some of them going out clubbing. Mary and her boyfriend, Seth, Nikki, and Amber went out. Mary’s manager/boyfriend is a jerk and needs to be banished from her life. She had a telephone conversation with him and all he did was put her down. They ended up at the same restaurant and Mary’s manager began dissing Seth about his career. This started Seth’s downward spiral.

He left the restaurant and disappeared causing more chaos and drama and the preview of the next episode showed the house upset over Seth’s disappearance. It also showed the House Mom telling everyone that Seth had a heart attack. 

The sober celebrities in Sober House are taking the hard way to a new life. All of them with the exception of Rodney King (by far the most serious about his last chance on a healthy life) started out by going out to the L.A. party scene. I couldn’t tell if they did any drinking but it sure looked like Mary Carey was “jonesing” for some Vodka. Her so-called boyfriend/manager did nothing to support her and should be removed from her life. He’s a wanna-be reality star anyway and hangs off the decaying fringe of Hollywood. We’ll see how much camera time he’ll manage to get from this show.

Then of course, there’s Seth with his boyish charm who is eager to listen to the devil on his shoulder and started off his first night out by being late, albeit sober. He might be the next one to go.

Rodney King chose to have a sober night out with the house mentors and for that he was the star of the show. All the others appear on shaky ground with their choice of tempting themselves by going to bars and nightclubs.

Three strikes Steven and you’re out of the Sober House.

Sober House on Vh1 premiered on January 15. This show will be a continuation of Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew. The show re-introduced most of the cast from Celebrity Rehab who will be at the house for 30 days along with Jen, the house counselor, who removed needles from Steven Adler’s luggage. He even had to be stripped search and was found to have heroin on him. Not a good beginning. (P.S. I hate to watch people vomit)

Steven Adler received one strike and it was only day one. He’s a hard-core drug addict who’s had a very rough life.

I hope he turns a corner during his thirty days.

Sober House, a spin-off of Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew, will debut on Thursday, January 15 at 10/9 on VH1. The new graduates (Rodney King, Nikki McKibbon, Steven Adler, and Amber Smith) plus Shifty Binzer, Mary Carey, and Andy Dick will join them for this look into an addicts transition from rehab to one step closer to “reality”. Do they have toxic friends or jobs? Can they handle the everyday stress that is life? Sounds like this show will make rehab look like a picnic.

According to the Sober House press release, “Dr. Drew hopes to use his celebrity patients to humanize the process and show viewers that treatment is a viable way to break the cycle of addiction.”
