Tensions rose to a fever pitch on Biggest Loser Couples this week and brought out “The Don” in twinkly-eyed Ron. Hey, that rhymes! They even played “Godfather” music in the background when he was scheming with son, Mike. Many of the team members have been distracted by the politics of the game and have lost sight of their weight loss goals.
The Temptation Challenge held a power prize of the single vote to whomever won it so almost all of them chowed down on the high calorie snacks until Laura found it. That vote was a mixed blessing because she had to send either Sione or Helen home. Helen pulled the friend/loyalty card and so Sione was sent home.

Lookin’ Good Sione
I can’t wait for next week when they makeover the remaining contestants.

The Black and Red Team got a good/bad surprise; they could all go home for a week. They were excited to see their families but they weren’t going to work out as much and were also going to be presented with plenty of temptations. Sometimes on this show, the real people heartfelt part shines through all the competition and baloney and this was no exception.
It was interesting to see their families reaction, especially when Mike’s brother Matt saw his 110 pound weight loss. He sobbed (real wrenching sobs) poor guy, making him realize he was the only big guy left in the family.

Helen ate the cookie
They had another challenge presented to them; a half marathon. The temptation part was eat a cookie and get 5 minutes added to another member’s time. The winner would receive 10 grand. Helen (with her families prompting) ate one for Tara making her lose to Sione who won the money.

The Blue Team lost again so this time it was Cathy’s turn to leave.

Here are a few fun facts about The Biggest Loser Couples I gathered from this weeks Entertainment Weekly Magazine:
The Biggest Loser has more marriages under its belt than The Bachelor. (2-1)
Did you know all the contestants have lost a total of 15,000 pounds since the first season?
There are an average of 10.5 million viewers each week.
The BEEP BEEP BEEP sound when weighing in is added during post-production.
“During the first season the network briefly considered challenges that would feature the contestants dangling with sumo wrestlers or being dunked in chocolate sauce and pelted with marshmallows.” Excerpt from “Bigger Than Ever” Entertainment Weekly 2/13/09
The average season lasts 12 weeks but this season lasted for 20 weeks.

On the football-themed Biggest Loser this week, Dan and Dave are now gone from the Biggest Loser campus in Malibu, CA. They were up against father and son team Mike and Ron. Dave who had only been on the show for a week didn’t have the same attitude as Dan but has now quit smoking and is working out a lot. Dan has been taken off his diabetes medication and is running daily. Each of them sounded positive about staying home and living a healthy life.
Pink Team member Helen won immunity thus enabling her daughter to come back to the ranch and continue with the competition.

Why is Whiny Joelle still on the Biggest Loser? And why did they vote Damien off? Wouldn’t it have been cool if her friend Carla had been able to switch with Joelle? Like a tag team Biggest Loser. That way they would both learn how to lose weight by themselves. Now that’s an idea for another season. Each partner would go home for a week at a time and no one would get eliminated (or weighed) until a certain time has passed. Not knowing how much they weigh would create added drama. Maybe just the viewing public. Cool idea, huh? Sometimes I amaze myself.

The best part of the night was when they told two of the contestants how much money they are saving by not taking their medications. WOW Both Blaine and Ron were told three weeks of diet and exercise have alleviated many of their health problems. Blaine’s medications would have cost him a hefty $733,000. over the next 50 years, and Ron’s medications totalled $20,000. a year. Lesson for America…

Kudos to Jillian for consoling Mandi when she was down about missing her family. She can be positive if she tries. I take back the hate parade I had started on my last Biggest Loser post.

Is your health worth $25,000.? On the show last week, the contestants were tempted with the money to leave the ranch. Joelle was tempted but no one took it. Unless she changes her attitude she will be a goner.
The Immunity Challenge was a combo sea kayak/torture walk up a mountain and Dan was last so he got the 1 pound disadvantage but Tara the 23 year old won 1st place and immunity for her team. I think she has a great chance at winning because she is young and her stamina is better than the older contestants.
The big part of this show was when Joelle drove Coach Bob to a mental breakdown. He lost his zen-like method of coaching and SCREAMED at her during the last chance workout. I guess everybody has their limits and we all saw Bob’s. He said he was “possessed by Jillian Michael.”

63 year old Jerry lost and was eliminated. I hope he does well. Good health to you!

On the 7th and biggest (weight-wise) season, Jillian is coaching the heaviest contestant in Biggest Loser history weighing in at 454 pounds. All I could say was WOW! And Daniel is only 19 years old. He ended up losing 30 pounds in one week. Unfortunately, that makes him a threat to the others. In my own version of Biggest Loser, I wouldn’t eliminate anyone.

But for me, the coolest part of the show was when Coach Bob showed two of the contestants the body bugg. www.bodybugg.com It’s an arm band system and is described as a ”reliably accurate device for calorie expenditure estimation.”
In my humble opinion, Jillian, my least favorite coach, needs to put on a fat suit and try to do one of her workouts she puts them through then maybe she would show more compassion. Maybe less yelling on her part and more positive reinforcement. On her own web site, it states that she had a weight problem in the past but I think she needs a reminder.
